Abigail Kushnir
Ph.D. candidate at the University of Edinburgh
I completed my B.Sc. in applied math and computer science at the University of Western Ontario in June 2024. A few months later, I packed up and moved from Canada to Scotland to start my Ph.D. in applied math at the University of Edinburgh. I'm currently in my second year and working under the supervision of Prof. Ramon Grima and Dr. Nikola Popovic.
My research interests are mainly in mathematical biology. Throughout my undergrad, I worked on various projects in areas such as theoretical population genetics and adaptive evolution, disease modelling using component-based models, and finding numerical solutions for PDEs. Now, I'm working with the reaction-diffusion master equation to model gene expression and other spatial, stochastic biological processes.
When I'm not at a whiteboard or my computer, I love to go rock climbing, knit or crochet, read, and go hiking.
